How to Write a Stand out Resume – Part 1
There is a saying that if you know the problem, you can find the solution. And, I couldn´t agree more with
this saying when it comes to dealing with resumes and CVs.
So before we start a process of writing down a résumé, let us ask ourselves a few question.
First of all, who will be reading this résumé, and what are the criteria they tend to use before they make a decision about the résumé?
And how many other applications do they actually receive. Do they read through all of them? I can tell you the answer to the latter is a simple NO.
Just an example- A company receives 30 applications for a vacancy. The most common thing they do is to take an overview look at the applications, and then select a few of the resumes they will want to have a closer look at. Remember, just by looking at the outset of a résumé will tell you a lot about it, so before long those 30 applications will be reduced to around seven or eight. Only the remaining applications will be studied more seriously, and from there they will eventually choose a few to call for an interview.
The logic here is, if your résumé is not up to the required standards, they will throw it away before they barely look at it. Any interesting job vacancy will at least receive a handful of applications. (I have heard stories of companies receiving over 100 applications for a single position). Qualified or not, weak looking applications will be shortly excluded. HR people quickly distinguishes between the good from the rest.
That means your résumé should be no less than eye-catching to even be considered.
If this is how it works, how can we make sure our résumé will be taken more seriously?
What it´s the secret of a great looking résumé?
How do you make your résumé stand out from the crowd?
Well, it´s all about details and I will be coming back for more on this on the next part of this series of how to write a stand out resume.
